Things That Used to Be True

When I was a kid, I learned that you shouldn’t go swimming for two hours after you eat. I missed out on a lot of good swimming because of that. There are many things that used to be “true” that aren’t any more.

Drinking water is still good, but you don’t need to drink eight glasses of water every day. That number was pulled out of someone’s ass. Vitamin E isn’t all it was cracked up to be. You don’t have to eat meat to be healthy. And people can not bend spoons with their minds.

The Breatharians were big when I was a kid. That was a bunch of hippies who convinced the media that they could live without food. All they had to do was meditate and breathe the air.  It turns out that the secret to their method involved eating when no one was looking.

Recently I read that the generally believed story about Israel’s reprisals for the Munich Olympic terrorism was a bunch of baloney. The way I originally heard it is that a crack team of Israeli assassins tracked down the Munich terrorists one by one and killed them. Now it seems that Israel made up that version. Israel did have assassins who killed people, but the people they killed were more ordinary opponents. It was just good PR to claim they were Munich assassins.

How many things can you think of that were at one time true IN YOUR LIFETIME that are no longer true?
