Einstein and God

Here’s a page with some Einstein quotes to show that he didn’t believe in a God who concerns himself with human affairs:

Just to be clear, I didn’t mention that Einstein sides with me as proof that I’m right about the non-existence of free will. Obviously Einstein could be wrong. I mentioned Einstein because so many of you feel my opinion itself is stupid. In other words, you feel that Einstein’s opinions (and those of many top philosophers) were not only wrong, but stupid. And then you voted.

And as far as the quantum uncertainty argument that many of you mentioned, it doesn’t offer any hope for free will. At best it proves that that some things might be truly random. Or perhaps we just can’t identify the cause and effect. But in any case, the randomness in the quantum world gets cancelled out when it bubbles up to the practical world. Quantum uncertainty never causes a lawnmower without gas to start.

For those of you who are worried that the no-free-will viewpoint could jeapordize the concept of personal “responsibility” and therefore cause society to crumble, don’t worry. We humans are all wired to treat personal responsibility as a real thing even if we know it’s an illusion. So the “guilty” will always be punished no matter how many people come to see that free will is an illusion.

I tried to avoid blogging on Sunday. But I couldn’t.
