Several people left comments here alerting me to the fact that I’m ranked as the #12 Influential Management Thinker in the world.
No, seriously. Here’s the web site that shows the rankings.
My first reaction was to feel sorry for the poor bastards who ranked 13 through 50. I imagine they would have felt pretty good about making the list until they were topped by the guy who wants to adopt a frozen embryo, name it Amy and keep it in the fridge.
I’m not entirely sure who I’m influencing with my world-class management thinking, but it can’t be a good thing. I do get a lot of e-mail from people who say that Wally has become their role model. That’s not helping the ol’ GNP. And I like to think that my Alice character has given women permission to punch people. I never imagined that advocating workplace violence would win me any prize. But I guess placing 12th isn’t much of a prize when you think about it.
Still, I have to admit I’m feeling quite heady from this honor, and already planning my next management influence. I think I’ll see if I can influence all managers to dress as Ronald McDonald based on the theory that a happy workforce is a productive one. If this doesn’t put me in the top ten Influential Management Thinkers by next year, I can honestly say that I don’t know what will.
